Social Event: Sparring, Picnic and Playtest
When: Sunday 24th August from 1pm
Where: The Angel and Greyhound Meadow, Boulter St, Oxford OX3 0EE
Wear: We’ll be outdoors. If you’d like to do some LARP fighting, we recommend loose fitting clothing that you’re comfortable moving about in, and sturdy shoes for running around in (ideally boots with good ankle support)
We’ll bring the LARP weapons, you bring the keen – and also some food. Anyone who has something they want to try playtesting, bring it along, otherwise we’ll just do general sparring/combat games. Those new to LARP combat are very welcome – we’ll do a full safety brief, and we have all the kit, just wear good shoes (something for running around field/woodland in, ideally boots with good ankle support).
Anabasis

In the Underworld, the dead while away their time from here to eternity. However news has spread of a lucky few who have been given a ticket out of here. You decided to try your luck and join them – anywhere is better than breaking your back trying to earn a living round these parts.
But even with a ticket in hand, and the company of your fellow travellers, the journey is long. Can you trust your fellow travellers? And can you trust yourself?
Anabasis is a 3 session parlour LARP inspired by the musical Hadestown, run by Cameron Alsop and Sophia de Medeiros.

The Society Game is a multi-session Parlour LARP. Each game will run for a set number of sessions, where you can make an original character to play live each event, in a homebrewed setting and system. You will play the same character throughout the game, following their story as it twists and turns, evolving over the arc of the game. Sessions consist of talking to other players and NPCs to work out what is going on, and plan your next steps. Between sessions you will submit a downtime saying what you want your character to get up to, and receive a personalised writeup about what’s been going on.

Linear Larp
There is no current weekly linear LARP. Want to run one? Talk to the committee!
Join us in the woods of Shotover Country Park, taking on the role of either a player character or one of their adversaries, in a homebrewed setting and system. Each week features a new, standalone adventure set in the wider setting of the game – by ‘linear’, we mean that each session is an adventure or dungeon crawl with planned encounters, loot, and some sort of end goal for the players. Most encounters will feature combat using LARP-safe foam weapons, based on the rules of the system.
These events run throughout the year on Saturdays. Every week, the GM for the upcoming Saturday will send out an adventure brief on the society mailing list and Discord server. You’ll have the option of playing a character or joining the monster team, who provide all the encounters and NPCs for the player party. Characters gain XP by joining adventures, and can level up and gain new abilities over time.
The previous system was Planetfall, which ran from 8th January 2022 until 8th June 2024. Players played stranded explorers in a borderlands space system cut off from the rest of the galaxy. The game wiki can be found here: planetfall.oxfordlarp.com
